Supplies Needed to Make Pipe Cleaner Candy Canes

For this easy Christmas craft, all you’ll need are:

Pipe Cleaners

Red and white pony beads

You’ll also need strong scissors or wire snips if you’d like to cut the pipe cleaners to a small size.

You can easily find all of this on Amazon, at your local Walmart or craft store, dollar store and even at most local grocery stores!

How to Make Pipe Cleaner Candy Canes

These cute pipe cleaner candy cane ornaments are ready to go on the Christmas tree, no extra string needed. Just hang the curved hook directly from the branches.

Select your pipe cleaner. If you’d like to make a shorter candy cane, cut it to an inch longer than the length you want your finished candy cane to be.

Thread a pony bead onto one end of the pipe cleaner, twisting the pipe cleaner around it to secure it.

Alternate threading red and white beads to create a traditional “striped” pattern, or let your child experiment with using different patterns or different colors to create their own designs!

After you add the last bead to the pipe cleaner, press the beads together until the gaps are small, and twist the remaining pipe cleaner around the last bead to secure it in place.

Bend it in the shape of a candy cane, and hang on the Christmas tree as an ornament, display as a Christmas decoration, or give as a cute handmade gift.

You can also tie twine or jute to smaller pipe cleaner candy canes to make a garland for your mantel or windows!

If you find that your pipe cleaner candy canes are too floppy, use 2 pipe cleaners for each candy cane for a sturdier craft.
