Free Santa Letter Printable Template
Writing a letter to Santa is one of the most special parts of the holiday season when you have young children. This free Santa letter printable is a great, easy way to create some special memories together.
When I was a little girl, my parents went all out to make Christmas time and the holidays magical. I remember our special visits to see Santa at our local mall (hello peak 90’s) and getting so excited to see him. There’s something so incredible about watching your children light up with the holiday magic of Christmas this time of year.
This Christmas is the first year my oldest is able to write his name, and with Christmas swiftly approaching I wanted to create something extra special for this holiday season. This free printable Santa letter template is easy to personalize, and even comes with a special envelope too!

Classic Letter to Santa Template
Writing letters to Santa Claus has become part of our family tradition as a way to kick off the holiday season and celebrations with our kids. This year my boys wrote their letters on Thanksgiving as an extra special activity (and an extra way to help keep them amused while dinner cooked) using these printable letters.
My husband had to help them as they are still really young and not able to do this independently just yet, but this classic letter to Santa template is designed to be one that older kids will enjoy too.
With a simple fill-in-the-blank format, this guided letter to Santa template is simple to follow to create your child’s own letter. It includes the free letter template with blank lines for their name, age, whether they’ve been naughty or nice this past year, what they’re thankful for and of course, letting him know what they would love to find on Christmas morning under the tree.
Our family also practices a more mindful Christmas, with the focus more on the reason for the season and less on getting gifts. We try each year to limit gifts to these categories:
- Something to wear
- Something to read
- Something they want
- Something they need
This free printable Santa letter was created with that thought process in mind (and to also help parents avoid impossible or overwhelming Christmas wish list for Santa that can quickly spiral). It’s also a great activity for working on letter-writing for older children, and simple handwriting and spelling for the little ones. Just follow the prompts on the blank letter.
I also included a printable Santa envelope too that includes a North Pole address. Just cut it out and tape it, and it’s ready to go. Your children can even add a return address if they would like (or just your child’s name, like we did).

We love this Christmas tradition, and I hope you and your little ones find a little extra joy while using this free Santa letter printable, too. It’s such a fun activity! The letter-writing process is a great way to bond with your child, soaking in the magic of Santa together. It also offers parents the perfect moment to talk to their kids about what’s on their wishlist and reinforce reasonable expectations as well. In our house this almost always includes reminding our boys that Santa is unable to bring a puppy because live animals aren’t allowed in the sleigh 😉
Don’t forget to take your Santa letter to the mailbox! My boys love this every year. It’s such a special moment for them.
This simple letter works great for kids of all ages. The personalized letter can even be made into a Christmas craft during holiday celebrations. Add markers, glue and some glitter to work on fine motor skills while they work on their special letter. Don’t forget the hot cocoa!
