What Do You Write in a Halloween Invitation?
The first step in crafting the perfect Halloween invitation is to decide on the Halloween party theme. Decide on the most important details: Are you planning a classroom party, or a Halloween movie watching party? Are kids invited? Will there be a full meal, or just snacks?
All of these answers are important for making sure you properly inform your potential guests about your upcoming event. You want your Halloween invite to easily give your guests all of the details they need!
Be sure to craft these so you have the perfect invitation:
- A fun, catchy intro (the below Halloween poems and invitation wording ideas are great to help with this!)
- The most important party details
- RSVP information
Start with a Fun Intro
The beginning of your Halloween party invitation sets the tone for the party’s personality! Have a little fun painting the picture of the theme and activities. Choose one of the Halloween poems or invitation ideas below to help inspire you.
Lay out the Details
Don’t get so involved with crafting a cute invite that you forget to put the most important details for your guests! The last thing you need is for a guest to be confused.
Keep this section as straightforward as possible with important information:
- Add the date, time and location address
- Let your guests know what will be provided (such as “We will be serving a spooky spread of Halloween finger foods” or “This is a potluck dinner! We will provide a frightfully fun main course, and ask that you bring a side or dessert to share with the other goblins.”
- Be sure to also let them know what is expected. Are costumes required? Are young children welcome? If this is a kids party, how about extra siblings? Will party games be played, or will you be just hanging out?
Don’t forget the RSVP details
Planning a party is always fun until you realize you’re missing responses from a bunch of guests at the last minute! Be sure to share how guests can let you know if they will be attending or not, as well as a deadline that gives you enough time for a headcount for food and drinks.

Halloween Party Invitation Poems
Want to add a poem to your Halloween invites? All of the spooky poems below are perfect for adding to the beginning of your Halloween bash wording! All of these poems are classic Halloween party wording, clever wordplay or from common poems and sayings that you guests will instantly recognize.
- When witches go riding and black cats are seen
The moon laughs and whispers “’tis Halloween!” - By pumpkins fat and witches lean
By coal black cats with eyes of green
By all the magic ever seen
Come join us for fun this Halloween! - It’s always spooky on Halloween night
Ghosts and goblins will give you a fright
Watch your back and do not be tardy
For the Borland Family’s Halloween Party. - When bats and ghosts are gliding
And witches soar, on broomsticks riding
The jack-o-lantern will be grinning
Because our Halloween party is just the beginning. - Double, double toil and trouble
Fire burn and caldron bubble
Come one, come all while dressed up good
To party with our neighborhood
