Our family loves holiday baking time! We make Christmas cookies every year to give as gifts to friends and family members (my boys love these Peanut Butter Blossoms, and our neighbor begs for these Chocolate Crinkle Cookies every year).

We love to experiment with new ideas, especially if it’s something the kids can help create. These adorable chocolate reindeer Oreo cookies are so much fun to make together. With pretzel antlers and a little red nose made from M&Ms, making them together is a great family time activity.

Ingredients Needed for Reindeer Oreos

To make this yummy Christmas treat, you’ll need a few simple ingredients (you can scroll for the full recipe card with the exact measurements, too):

  • Oreos
  • Chocolate Chips
  • Mini Pretzels
  • Candy Eyes
  • Red M&Ms

Any flavor of Oreos works for this recipe! Choose your favorite, or experiment with different flavors.

I recommend semisweet chocolate chips or dark chocolate chips. You can also use chocolate candy melts if that’s what you have.

Mini pretzels are the perfect size for reindeer antlers! Anything larger is also a bit too heavy to stay on the cookie.

Candy eyes can usually be found year-round at your local grocery store. I use them in so many different recipes (like Mummy Halloween Brownies!). You can also order them online here.

I used red M&Ms because we had a bag of Christmas M&Ms at home. However, you can use any red candy you’d like for the red nose, like red hots or red candy hearts.

How to Make Holiday Oreo Reindeer Cookies

Start by lining a baking sheet with parchment paper or wax paper and set aside.

To melt the chocolate, place the pieces into a microwave-safe bowl and microwave in 20 second to 30-second intervals, stirring well in between with a spoon or spatula. Continue until the chocolate is melted and smooth.

Dip each Oreo cookie in the melted chocolate and coat both sides. Use a fork to remove the cookie from the bowl, lightly tapping the fork on the side of the bowl to remove excess chocolate.

Transfer the cookie to the prepared cookie sheet. Immediately press two candy eyes into the center of the cookie and one red M&M directly below to create the reindeer’s face.

Next, dip the bottoms of two mini pretzels in the melted chocolate bowl. Gently place one pretzel on each side of the Oreo to form the antlers.

Do not disturb the cookies after the pretzels are put in place, as the chocolate needs to fully harden so that the pretzel antlers don’t fall off. Allow them to sit at room temperature for one hour or in the refrigerator for 30 minutes, until the chocolate has hardened.

Once they’re fully hardened, they’re ready to be served and enjoyed!

These are the perfect addition for your Christmas cookie exchange or holiday potluck. If you are gifting them, keep in mind that they antlers can be fragile and break off easily. Be sure to keep the Reindeer Oreos separated by layers of parchment paper, and stored in an airtight container.

These cookies will last up to 5 days in the refrigerator. Keep in mind that the Oreo cookies and pretzels will soften the longer you wait, so I recommend chowing down on these soon after making them for the tastiest results.

If you’re nervous about smearing the melted chocolate when applying the candy eyes, use a pair of tweezers like these!
