How do you make an egg carton crown?
In just a few easy steps you can create your own flower crown! While you can customize this simple craft to your child’s preferences, here is the list of supplies you’ll need to create your own egg carton flower crown:
- One egg carton
- Scissors
- Craft paint
- Paintbrushes
- Craft knife
- Hole puncher
- Wire / ribbon / Pipe cleaners
- Mini pom pom balls
- Painter’s tape
- Hot glue gun
- Hot glue sticks
Steps to Make an Egg Carton Flower Crown
Remove the egg carton lid. Using a craft or utility knife, cut the egg carton into twelve individual sections.
Trim the egg cups to make them all look similar and leveled.
Cut each egg cup like a flower by making them all look similar or differently. You can clip around to make different shaped petals.
Time to paint!
For this project we used acrylic paint, but tempera paint works well for this easy egg carton craft too. Decide which colors you want to paint your crown and start to prepare the painting table.
Paint each egg cup inside and out and let it dry.
Once the egg carton cups are totally dry, glue 1 mini cotton ball in the middle of each flower cup with a glue gun.
Next, make holes in the side of each flower cup using a hole puncher. Be sure the two holes are directly across from each other.
Take the wire/ribbon/pipe cleaner and measure your child’s head. Lace the flower crown by gently feeding it through one flower cup at a time.
Tip: cover each end of your chosen cord with painter’s tape to make lacing through the egg carton flowers easier.
When you are done lacing secure the ends together using painter’s tape, and your beautiful egg carton flower crown is finished and ready for hours of pretend play, or just an afternoon of fun!
You can also pair this cute headband with some Mother’s Day coloring cards for a handmade gift for mom.
