Egg cartons are a great re-useable resource when it comes to crafting for little ones! It’s commonly available, eco-friendly, and always so much fun to see what you can make out of it.

Easy Halloween Egg Carton Crafts

These egg carton Halloween crafts are so fun to make! Using only ONE egg carton, you can make four Jack o lanterns, two ghosts and four spiders!

Get into the Halloween spirit using egg cartons, a dab of paint and a few pipe cleaners. Plus, cutting, painting and decorating help your children develop those oh so important fine motor skills while also encouraging growing creativity.

You can choose to make one or make them all! These are perfect for an easy afternoon of crafting with your little ones. These simple egg carton Halloween crafts can be used as decorations around the house, can be strung together to make a garland or you can also use them as cute little handmade gifts to give out at school!

Here are the Supplies You’ll Need to Make These Egg Carton Halloween Crafts

While each of these cute crafts call for slightly different paint colors and supplies, here is the list of supplies you’ll need to create all of them! You will need:

  1. One egg carton
  2. Scissors 
  3. Paint: Orange, Black, White, Glitter (this set is great and has all of them!)
  4. Paintbrushes
  5. Craft knife
  6. Pipe cleaners
  7. Black Permanent marker 
  8. Googly eyes
  9. Glue gun
  10. Glue sticks

Before getting started on these egg carton crafts, you’ll first want to prepare the egg carton for crafting.

Using a craft or utility knife, cut the egg carton into twelve individual sections. Trim the rough edges and make sure it’s all the same height and size. Now you’re ready to start crafting your Halloween creation!

Egg Carton Spider Craft

Let’s make SPIDERS!

These adorable creepy crawlers are made from egg cartons that are painted black, but there is nothing scary about these little guys! These spiders make adorable wall and table decoration, or a fun craft activity for a rainy October afternoon.

Materials Needed for Egg Carton Spiders:

4 egg carton cups

Black paint

Paintbrushes

Glitter paint

Pipe cleaners

Googly eyes

Glue gun

How to Make Egg Carton Spiders:

  1. Paint each egg carton cup with the black paint. Let it dry and cover with a layer of glitter paint. This is an optional step, but it gives the spider a fun glow look!
  2. Prepare the pipe cleaners by cutting each string in half. Fold and cut each half string again. You will end up with four pieces from one string. Repeat this process until you have eight pieces per spider. 
  3. Fold each end of the pipe cleaner as indicated in the picture. 
  4. Use the glue gun to secure the legs of the spider. 

Egg Carton Ghosts

Egg carton ghosts are too cute to scare anyone, but they make adorable decorations for your home around Halloween. You only need a few simple materials to create these cute ghosts yourself.

With recycled egg cartons, white paint, white tissue paper and of course, googly eyes, you and your kids will have a blast putting these together.

Materials Needed for Egg Carton Ghosts:

4 egg carton cups

White paint

Glow-in-the-dark paint (optional)

Paintbrushes

Black permanent marker

Googly eyes

How to Make Egg Carton Ghosts:

  1. Paint the egg carton cups white. If you want to make glow-in-the-dark ghosts, paint a layer of glow-in-the-dark paint over the white paint.
  2. Place one cup on top of the other to create a higher cup.
  3. Draw a mouth for the ghost with a black permanent marker.
  4. Add googly eyes with a glue gun

Egg Carton Jack-O-Lanterns

Materials needed for Egg Carton Jack-O-Lanterns:

4 egg carton cups

Orange paint

Paintbrushes

Brown and green pipe cleaners

Black permanent marker 

Utility/craft knife

How to Make Egg Carton Jack-O-Lantern’s:

  1. Paint the four egg cartons orange.
  2. Wait until dry and make a small incision at the top of each carton cup.
  3. Use a black permanent marker and draw a face. 
  4. Cut the brown pipe cleaners into small pieces and pull through the small incision.
  5. Cut the green pipe cleaner into smaller pieces and fold it to create a leaf. Put the ends through the small incision.

These Halloween crafts are super easy for toddlers to do on their own. You can play around with the different materials and be as creative as you want to be. It’s HALLOWEEN after all…enjoy!
